Executive Coaching Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this coaching for?

My coaching is for leaders, executives, professionals, and others who want to navigate meaningful personal and professional change with greater awareness, clarity, and intention. It may be particularly relevant when you are entering a new leadership role, facing a transition, making decisions under uncertainty, or seeking greater alignment between your values and actions.

What does disciplined and reflective coaching mean?

Reflection helps you see yourself, your circumstances, and your choices more clearly. Discipline brings focus and intention to the coaching process and can help translate awareness into action. Awareness may create the initial shift, but sustainable transformation requires disciplined action aligned with your values and purpose. My coaching brings these two elements together.

How can coaching help during change or uncertainty?

Uncertainty can activate automatic reactions shaped by thoughts, emotions, assumptions, and previous experiences. Coaching helps you pause, recognise what is influencing your response, and make more conscious choices. This can help you move through uncertainty with greater clarity, responsibility, and intention.

Will you advise me or tell me what to do?

Coaching differs from consulting, advising, and mentoring. My primary role is to evoke awareness and support you in developing your own clarity, choices, and capacity for action.

My business experience informs my understanding, while as a coach, I trust your ability to develop your own solution. I respect your autonomy and responsibility for deciding what is right for you.

How do I know whether you are the right coach for me?

A productive coaching relationship depends on trust, readiness, and a meaningful connection between your needs and the coach’s approach. My work may suit you if you value thoughtful depth, honest reflection, respectful challenge, personal responsibility, and disciplined action. An initial conversation allows us to explore what brings you to coaching and whether working together feels appropriate.

What does a coaching engagement look like in practice?

My philosophy informs how I coach; it does not prescribe your journey. It shapes how I bring presence and discipline to the coaching process and create space for reflection.

Coaching conversations are confidential and guided by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) Code of Ethics. The boundaries of confidentiality, including any applicable exceptions, are discussed and agreed upon at the beginning of the coaching relationship.

We begin by co-creating the coaching agreement. This helps us clarify what you want from the coaching, what would make the engagement meaningful for you, and how we will work together. At the beginning of each session, we agree on what you want to achieve from that conversation and how you will know by the end of the session that it has been valuable to you. We may explore why achieving that objective is important to you, how realistic you believe it is, and what may be getting in the way. A meaningful and realistic objective, together with your own measure of success, gives the conversation direction and helps us remain focused on what matters to you.

I listen not only to what you say, but remain curious about what emerges in the moment. I may notice a reaction, challenge an assumption, invite you to participate in a role play, or explore with you a perspective you have not yet considered.

Discipline in that context does not mean pushing you towards action. It means bringing focus and intention to the coaching process and staying with what matters rather than rushing towards a solution. We may go deeper when something appears meaningful, while respecting your readiness and autonomy.

You remain the expert on your own experience and retain ownership of what you discover, the choices you make, and the actions you decide to take.

Coaching engagements are tailored to the individual and can take place online or in person, depending on location and planning, although most sessions take place online. A typical engagement consists of 6–10 sessions of approximately 45–60 minutes. Coaching is available in English and German. The format and rhythm are agreed at the outset based on what best supports the coaching objective.

Who is Sherif Gabr?

My coaching is grounded in more than three decades of lived leadership experience across corporate, consulting and entrepreneurial environments. My career has taken me from operational and financial leadership to COO and Deputy CEO roles at Yves Rocher Switzerland/Austria, consulting roles at KPMG and Arthur Andersen/EY, founding my own executive search and coaching company, and almost a decade as Group Audit Operations Lead and Member of the Executive Staff at Zurich Insurance Group.

Across these roles, I have led international teams and complex transformations, advised organisations across different industries, built and developed teams, and designed structures for people development, learning and organisational effectiveness. I have experienced leadership from different perspectives — as an executive, operational leader, consultant, entrepreneur, team leader, mentor and coach.

This breadth of experience has exposed me first-hand to the realities leaders face: complexity, competing priorities, accountability, organisational change, developing people, managing uncertainty and making decisions when there is no perfect answer. My perspective has also been shaped by teaching and many years of service through Rotary.

Together, these experiences have reinforced something central to how I coach today: sustainable transformation is not only about what we achieve, but also about increasing self-awareness, making conscious choices and taking disciplined action aligned with who we are, our values and our purpose.
